That was entertaining, thanks. But what about the rest of the story? Where is he now? What does he do? etc, etc.

In reality no one care where is that friend or what he does now. He is simply a gambler, not a player. It's a good example of how to not to do.

MrPerfect,
So what if he is a gambler? I love and respect gamblers. You use the term like it is a disease. Most of the members of any gambling forum are recreational gamblers - problem gamblers are another story. Believe me NOT everyone wishes to be a pro gambler and many gambler's have jobs they love and play for fun.
Being a pro gambler is not everyone's dream. Many prefer to be doctors, artists, entrepreneurs or whatever they chose.

He took all his hard earned winnings and put on color , on one spin. It was irresponsible.  For irresponsible gambling there are consulting like gambleraware..ets. I have nothing egainst gamble,  but irresponsible gambling for the gambling itself and stupid show off , it is a problem gambling and should be avoided.

Ok - now I see what you mean.
Btw, I'm not sure if the story is 100% true or if my friend exaggerated the facts taking artistic license.

I saw a video of a news report where a gentleman put all of his life savings on Red and the casino sponsored the event, it made big news.

(he won)

Yes, Ashley Revell.
IMO the text talks about fulfillment, but in a indirect way. He was searching for a meaning and couldn't find it as pro gambler.

"The lifestyle that my pals and I were living, began to drive me insane. My head was up my arse, and they just weren't getting what I was saying. I don't know what I was saying, but I know I had a point. I had told Andy that we should get hobbies and interests, and that our work was not rewarding on a deep level."

"The truth is I didn't even know at that point whether I wanted to win or lose. All I knew is that I wanted to gamble. It might sound counter-intuitive, but it felt like the only way out. All or nothing."

This is also a great read:
